Personally, I’m a huge cycling fan. While all of my friends are constantly talking about their favorite football of baseball team, or favorite golfer, all I can think about is July. Why July? Because that’s when I get to watch the 2010 Tour de France online!

The Tour de France has a special significance for me. I actually grew up right down the street and graduated from high school with Lance Armstrong (Plano East Senior High, 1989). Many people don’t realize that Lance actually started out as a cross-country runner, and was not into cycling until he started competing in triathlons around the Dallas area. Once he started training for triathlons, a few other friends and I started training with Lance after school, usually riding out towards Lake Lavon so Lance and other triathletes could go for a training swim in the lake.
It was during those high school years that I began to watch the Tour de France. I actually became obsessed with it. I would religiously tape the tour on CBS Sports Sunday. Unfortunately, the quality of those old VHS recordings is terrible now. Too bad the Internet didn’t exist back then, or I would have definitely been able to watch the Tour de France online!

The reason I need to be able to watch the 2010 Tour de France online is that I travel a lot for work, and am not home to regularly tune in to the broadcast on cable or satellite TV. Fortunately, after a lot of research, I found a program that allows me to watch it on my own computer or laptop. It’s called Satellite Direct and it’s awesome. I just had to make a one-time small payment to purchase the software. Once it was installed on my computer, I was able to watch the Tour de France online in real time, no matter where I am in the world. Now I can be on a business trip to Shanghai, and watch the 2010 Tour de France online in the middle of the night right from the comfort of my hotel room.
So who’s going to prevail this year? Do you think Lance Armstrong has what it takes? His second place finish in the Tour of Switzerland was impressive indeed. Or do you think Alberto Contador is simply too fit to be beaten? Of course, you can’t rule out the always-impressive Schleck, who just won the Tour of Switzerland. Contador has stated that Schleck is his only real rival this year.
Whoever you choose as a favorite, make sure you take my advice, get the software I mentioned, and watch the 2010 Tour de France online!
